You may have been a manager for many years but have just felt your way through it, had no formal training and would like to know if you’re doing it right. Equally you may be new to management and want to do things effectively from the start.

Our Flagship three-day workshop will take you through the role of the manager and give you all the vital tools and techniques you will need to make your management journey smooth and ultimately help you to get the best from your team. It’s packed with tools, examples and exercises so you can practice, take your new skills back to the workplace and use them immediately.

Manage different & difficult personalities

Learn what the actual role is of a people manager and gain a 20-point checklist to evaluate yourself against. Identify gaps and areas of improvement. Explore the four different communication styles that you are likely to come across in your management journey and learn how to get the best from each style. Identify your own natural communication style, the style of your team members and how to adapt to improve your working relationship.

Set expectations and clear goals

Learn how to set up a positive and transparent working relationship and how to approach a “ways of working” conversation. Understand how to establish clear boundaries and articulate your own expectations whilst also learning about your team members' expectations, preferences and how to get the best from them. Learn the importance of goal setting, how to set SMART goals and how to ensure the goals are actually worked on and become part of day to day work.

Delegate effectively

Understand what stops you from delegating and how to overcome the mental barriers to delegation. Gain some simple frameworks to help you approach the delegation conversation - "The seven gold rules of delegation" and "The five levels of delegation". Learn how to overcome the common delegation mistakes and how to adapt the delegation approach to suit the team member. Gain a framework to help you decide which tasks to delegate and to whom. Make some decisions on what you will delegate!

Give positive & constructive feedback

Explore the benefits of giving positive feedback, the recommend frequency and how to phrase it to ensure it is really meaningful. Explore why you avoid giving constructive feedback and how to reframe it (and rename it!). Discover how to phrase the feedback and the eight guidelines and language principles (the dos and don’ts!). Practice phrasing and delivering feedback for one of your own real work situations. Identify the five possible responses you may get when you give feedback and how to handle each of these responses. Learn how to make feedback an on-going conversation and how to structure 1-2-1s with team members.

Build trust and motivate your team

Explore the dos and don’ts of gaining trust and demonstrating trust and identify your improvement areas. Analyse what motivates you and how your motivation links to others. Take som time to explore the difference between a motivator and a hygiene factor and Identify what motivates each of your team members. Gain some insgight on and identify actions on how you can use the five motivators to get the best out of your team.

Use Coaching to develop individuals

Learn what is really meant by coaching and why it is such a powerful communication technique for managers. Understand what makes a good coaching question and practice the skills required to be a good coach. Learn the GROW model- a framework for coaching conversations and experience using the GROW model.

This training course is available for face-to-face delivery. We will travel to your offices and create a fully immersive experience which includes theory, demonstrations, activities, action planning and the added bonus of your employees being able to meet and network with colleagues.

Virtual

This training course can be delivered virtually — either as complete days or over a series of bite-sized modules, helping you to manage you time better. We can adapt the course length and format to suit your needs and we can also offer a hybrid option.
